In all the furore over Nirbhaya, it feels like other cases like my neighbour, a lovely, sensitive Spanish girl, devoted to music, who was repeatedly raped on 4th of November, 2012. is remembered only as a statistic.
Today marks 2 months since she was raped. There is no further news on where her alleged rapist is, whether he has been chargesheeted or been released on bail. When and what his sentence could be. Today also marks the day when another neighbour was burgled. She is 79-the police claim that they found her cell phone-she read about it in the news. Feisty lady contacted them - till today, no sign of her phone.
After all that hullabaloo there is silence on what is going to happen to "Chhota Badshah". Will he get away-AGAIN? We can track a document sent by IndiaPost online. We can check if a commercial aircraft has landed. But the citizens of Perry Cross Road still lie awake, wondering-will they be safe again? Or will every potential thief and rapist feel free to shimmy up our drainpipes whilst we rest our weary heads after a hard day's work? Will we always live wondering if our senior citizens, children and women are safe? Do we really care anymore? Under the guise of the 'spirit' of Mumbaikars are we looking the other way when the publicity stops?
And, despite all the candlelit vigils, the reams of news on Nirbhaya, the blogs and the the TV time, once the 6 men are sentenced, will all the other rape cases be forgotten? Or will the other rapists also be brought to justice?
If anyone can help us find out, it will be deeply appreciated.....
Finally an update.
ReplyDeleteMr Nagre Patil, ACP has said that Chhota Badshah will be charge-sheeted before 4th February 2013.
There is enough evidence against him to get him the harshest possible sentence.
I look forward to 4th Feb, in the hope that this truly does happen
